Peach Dumpling Cobbler is a cobbler made with fresh sliced peaches layered between three layers of sweet, tender, buttery dough. Boiling water is poured over the whole cobbler. The dough transforms magically, making sheets of dumplings.
OLD FASHIONED SOUTHERN PEACH COBBLER
This old-fashioned peach cobbler is Southern in every respect. It features fresh peaches and a flaky, buttery crust that magically transforms into sheets of dumplings.
Peach Dumpling Cobbler is the first dessert I want to make as the peach season approaches.
We love my Double Crust Peach Cobbler recipe, but lately, the Peach Dumpling Cobbler has become the first choice.
They are both easy enough to make. We just love the dumpling texture in the Peach Dumpling Cobbler.
And really, the only difference between the two recipes is that the Peach Dumpling Cobbler has three layers of crust instead of two, and 2 cups of boiling water is poured over the whole cobbler.
This is where all the magic happens, tender sheets of dumplings.
Since the Peach Dumpling Cobbler is baked with water, I bake it in a deep, oblong baking dish.

We enjoyed this cobbler so much and decided it was our favorite peach dessert. I hope you will get to make one soon.

TIPS AND TIDBITS TO MAKE THE BEST PEACH DUMPLING COBBLER
Pie crust. Refrigerated pie crust may be substituted for homemade crust. Do not roll out the crust. Just remove them from the package and use them as directed in the recipe. You may need more sheets than are in the package.
Sweeteners. Instead of using granulated sugar, try brown sugar or add maple syrup, giving a deeper depth of flavor.
Spices. We prefer the purest flavor of peaches in our cobblers, but if you enjoy added spices, nutmeg, cinnamon, cardamom, and even ginger are acceptable options.
Gluten-free. Swap the all-purpose flour for gluten-free flour.

HOW TO MAKE PEACH DUMPLING COBBLER
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Slice peaches in a large bowl and toss with fruit fresh and vanilla; set aside.
Divide the dough into thirds. Roll one-third of the dough on a lightly floured surface with a rolling pin large enough to place the sheet of dough into a large oblong dish and push the dough up the sides. Place 1/2 of the peaches across the dough.
Roll one-third of the dough on a lightly floured surface with a rolling pin large enough to place the sheet of dough onto the layer of peaches. Place the other 1/2 of the peaches across the dough layer.
Roll the last third of the dough on a lightly floured surface and place the sheet of dough over the top of the peach layer.
Heat sugar, butter, and water over medium heat in a large saucepan until the butter melts. Pour over the layers.
With a sharp knife, cut all the way through the cobbler diagonal across to the other side of the dish in strips. Turn and cut in the opposite direction diagonally across the dish.
Brush liberally with melted butter, sprinkle with coarse sugar, and bake for 1 and 1/2 hours.
