WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO MAKE SOY BRAISED BEEF SHORT RIBS
- Braising pot or a heavy bottom pot
- Short Ribs
- Coarse salt
- Avocado oil
- Ginger
- Garlic
- Cinnamon Stick
- Bay leaf
- White pepper
- Chinese five spice powder
- Brown sugar
- Soy sauce
- Beef Stock
- Green onions for garnish
HOW TO MAKE SOY BRAISED BEEF SHORT RIBS
- Coat the short ribs in salt and set aside to bring up to room temperature, about 1 hour.
- Heat avocado oil in a large braiser or heavy bottom pot over medium high heat. Add the short ribs in a single layer not touching and sear until brown, 3 to 4 minutes on each side.
- Add ginger, garlic, cinnamon stick, bay leaf, white pepper, and Chinese Five Spice powder. Add brown sugar, soy sauce, and beef broth.
- Bring to a simmer and reduce heat to medium low or whatever temperature to maintain a gentle simmer. Cover with lid and let the short ribs cook until fall off the bone tender, about 2 and 1/2 hours.
- Remove the lid and discard the cinnamon stick and bay leaf. Serve the braised short ribs in a dish over noodles, rice, or mashed potatoes with a generous spoonful of the juices rendered from the short ribs.
- Garnish with sliced green onions.
