Pineapple Chess Pie

Pineapple chess pie has  all the ingredients of a traditional chess pie except for adding a small can of crushed  pineapple. PINEAPPLE CHESS PIE {Granny's Recipe} When I think of some of the pies that my Mother would make during the holidays, I think of this beautiful  Pineapple Chess  pie, which is  rich and delicious. Isn't it funny how we remember certain things about our Mother's traditions? About one week before the holidays, Mother would set up a dessert table. Do you remember when there were  card tables? Beside her buffet, she would lay a pretty tablecloth on a card table, and as she made the desserts, she would place them on the table, ready for guests to enjoy. As a little girl growing up, I always thought, "That is just what I am going to do when I get married "Have a Dessert Table." Well, I kept my plans, which I did about one week before the big day. Now that I am a grandmother, I love to see my grandchildren's eyes light up when they get

Southern Spoonbread

Southern Sweet Corn Spoonbread is a century-old Southern comfort food that has graced the tables across the South.     SOUTHERN SWEET CORN SPOONBREAD The Southern Spoonbread recipe is a classic Southern side dish.  It is creamy, moist cornbread that is more like a cornmeal-based souffle or delicate cornbread pudding.   This Sweet Corn Spoonbread is a quick and easy side dish. To make it, combine everything in a bowl, stir, and bake. It is a favorite around my house. We look forward to having it every year on our Easter menu. The recipe also works well for weeknight menus. It starts off with a box of Jiffy cornbread mix, then two kinds of corn, butter, eggs, and sour cream, simply delicious.

Carrot Souffle

This velvety, creamy souffle perfectly complements a holiday meal, providing a grand presentation. CARROT CASSEROLE Like sweet potato casseroles are to Thanksgiving, this carrot casserole is an essential Easter side dish that will surely delight all your guests!  It is rich, fluffy, and literally melts in your mouth.  Oh, so yummy! This recipe came to me from a good friend who has shared many of her recipes through the years.   I cherish recipes I have received from friends over the years.   They bring back so many memories to me when I make them.

Raspberry Coffee Cake

Raspberry Coffee Cake in the morning will start your day off to a fabulous start.  Serve it anytime for dessert, an afternoon snack, or my favorite breakfast. RASPBERRY BREAKFAST CAKE The recipe is based on my Very Blueberry Coffee Cake, switching out with fresh raspberries, butter, sugar, eggs, and sour cream and sprinkled with a coarse finishing sugar. I grew up with something sweet on the table all the time because my mother had a charming sweet tooth, which she passed on to her four daughters.    Mother was an amazing baker.  Even though I learned from her, I wish I had written down more of her recipes and paid more attention when she baked.

Mama's Southern Baked Beans

Thick and rich with just the right amount of sweetness, these baked beans are a perfect side dish for whatever you cook up for your next gathering.   CLASSIC SOUTHERN BAKED BEANS Mother's easy to make baked beans are just that,  EASY.  This classic dish has canned pork n' beans, onions, bell pepper, brown sugar, mustard, Worcestershire, and the star, Bacon.   I could not post my mother's Potato Salad recipe (previous post) without posting her Southern Baked Beans recipe, also.  Like the potato salad recipe, I have had this one in my head for years too. I watched my mother make her potato salad and baked beans a gazillion times, and I don't remember her making one without the other, but I suspect that there were times when she did. I know what the ingredients are in her baked beans, but I am not sure about the exact amount of the ingredients each time.

Nutella Sweet Rolls

Nutella Sweet Rolls recipe follows a similar process to cinnamon rolls. They start with a soft, pillowy dough and are filled with the star of the recipe, Nutella, then iced with vanilla icing. Nutella Heavenly Sweet Rolls These ooey gooey sweet rolls are the most decadent breakfast treats you could ever imagine, either for breakfast or,  like at my house, for dessert. Nutella is an absolute favorite with my grandchildren, so I thought making Nutella Sweet Rolls would be appropriate for Valentine's breakfast or, why not, dessert :). These soft, sweet, fluffy sweet rolls are hassle free.   They only take 30 minutes to rise once, so you can spend your time making other special delicacies for your special day. As you see, these rolls are amazing plain, but to give them an additional gooeyness, I iced them with a rich buttery, vanilla icing.  A thin coat gives them a glorious shine and divine gooeyness. If you can't resist these sweet rolls, just take a look at these  sweet rolls an

Simple Broccoli Cauliflower Salad

Simple Broccoli Cauliflower Salad will elevate a meal for Kings or refresh a family potluck dinner.  The perfect salad with only six ingredients, including the creamy, tangy dressing. BROCCOLI CAULIFLOWER SALAD WITH CREAMY DRESSING My recipe for delicious Broccoli Cauliflower Salad is simple and quick to make, full of fresh broccoli and cauliflower florets, julienne red onions, and tossed in a dressing you want to drink.   Growing up, anytime we had a big gathering, Mother would cook the biggest meal, and the whole family would come.   Recipes like this classic Broccoli Cauliflower Salad totally remind me of those days of the love and care my Mother took in hosting all the family and celebrating us. Just like Mother, I keep this salad as simple as possible.  My family loves this salad year-round, especially around the holidays.   This brings up Thanksgiving around the corner, always a favorite.   I know this salad will become one of yours, too.

Oven Smoked Brisket

Oven Smoked Brisket is tender meat that tastes like it has been smoked in a smoker for hours.  You don't need a smoker to enjoy this mouthwatering oven smoked brisket. Beef Brisket Smoked In The Oven The best Texas style brisket is tender without falling apart while slicing, and it has that thick layer of smoky, peppery bark surrounding each slice.  This recipe meets all of those standards. Brisket was a new cut of meat, you might say, at our house growing up as a teenager. When my mother first started cooking brisket, she would cook them in the oven at first, and then, when she got a smoker, she started smoking them. The best part about my mother cooking brisket was not how she cooked them but how she selected the one to buy. The briskets you buy in Texas are usually known as a packer cut—this means that it’s the entire chest muscle, and most of the time covered with a generous layer of fat and weighs anywhere from seven to eleven pounds.

Linzer Pop Tarts

This recipe was first published in February 2012.  Updated December 2022 This is a pastry that takes on the elements of an Italian tart made with a buttery pastry, yielding the right amount of flakiness.  Simple and delicious, perfect for brunch. A Simple Jam Crostata A Crostata is one of those desserts that is known and made all throughout Italy, a rustic version of an open fruit tart. The shortbread crust is unique in that it is made with flour, sugar, eggs, egg yolks, and baking powder.  It is filled with the traditional jam, but there are new ingredients that have swept across the United States, Nutella, ricotta, and pastry cream.

Jumbo Banana Carrot Muffins

Banana Carrot Muffins are a cross between banana bread and carrot cake, all the cozy ingredients that make this breakfast treat so delightful. Banana Carrot Muffins The recipe for these banana carrot muffins is packed with a full cup of bananas and 2 cups of shredded carrots, enhanced with brown sugar and a tiny bit of cinnamon and cardamom, yielding a light, fluffy and moist muffin. I love muffins of any kind for grabbing a quick snack on the go, and when they have healthy ingredients, it is a bonus.   We have been enjoying these Banana Carrot Muffins for breakfast each morning since I made them.  With the weather getting cooler, I think they would be a warm cozy accompaniment to a cup of tea in the afternoon. These Banana Carrot Muffins are delicious out of the oven or reheated after freezing.

Roasted Whole Caramelized Carrots

Fun and Easy Roasted Whole Caramelized Carrots are a classic, super simple side dish for holiday meals and family dinner tables.  Fun and Easy Caramelized Whole Carrots  The dish calls for a few straightforward ingredients that enhance the purest flavor of the carrots. I love everything about roasted root vegetables, especially how easy and quick they take to roast. While they are hanging out roasting in the oven, I can prepare other dishes to go with them. These roasted whole carrots are fun to make. Peel them and toss them in a mixture of seasonings, brown sugar, and avocado oil.   The carrots' natural sweetness and the deep seasoning flavor are excellent.   The small amount of brown sugar complements the mild sweetness of the carrots. Honey is also an option.

How To Cook A Whole Bone In Ham

A Whole Bone-in Ham recipe is so simple, with no glaze, no clove studding, and no fuss. It uses the low and slow cooking method and a blast of high heat at the end to caramelize the outside. The results are excellent, juicy, tender, and with superb flavor. WHOLE  BONE IN HAM With so many varieties of hams in grocery stores today, it can be daunting to know how to cook one. I share secrets for buying, preparing, and cooking the juiciest ham ever.  A whole bone in ham is the most effortless meat to cook for a holiday meal.  Preparation is equally as easy.   A whole ham is larger than needed for a regular meal but perfect for a large gathering or save and have for those wonderful leftover ham recipes. Most hams you buy are fully cooked, and all you do is score the ham and, if you want, add a simple glaze.  My family prefers the natural juices from the ham to baste the ham instead of a glaze.   By scoring a diamond pattern in the ham into the fat and skin, being sure not to get into the me

How To Make The Easiest Bunny Lofthouse Frosted Sugar Cookie Pops

Bunny Lofthouse Frosted Sugar Cookie Pops, frosted sugar cookies, and cream cheese come together to make the most amazing delicious no-bake pops.  Start with flattening the cookie pop, dip in melted candy melts and decorate with an Easter Bunny decorating kit.  A quick and easy Easter dessert just got a little sweeter.    After seeing someone on Tik Tok make Lofthouse Frosted Sugar Cookies Pops, I had to give them a try.   With Easter around the corner, I decided to make some into bunny faces.  The only difference is the shape.

Spring Asparagus Salad

Spring Asparagus Salad is a salad that comes together quickly with a fresh taste,  fresh vegetables, and zing in the vinaigrette, which makes someone think it is perfect for a side dish.    Tangy Asparagus Salad Fresh asparagus salad is one of my favorite spring salads. It has a light and flavorful crunch and is drizzled with a tangy lemon avocado vinaigrette dressing. Spring is on its way! I am getting ready with my Asparagus Salad with Tangy Avocado Lemon Vinaigrette.  It is beautiful, fresh, healthy, and vibrant. My spring salad has simple, fresh ingredients, asparagus, cucumbers, and chili peppers.   The salad is drizzled with a fantastic avocado lemon vinaigrette.  The dressing only takes minutes to make and adds so much freshness. The salad can be made a day before serving, and leftovers are welcome.  The ingredients marry together and are heightened to a new level of flavor.   Asparagus is blanched for the best texture and holds up in the vinaigrette for days.   I like to use En

Brownie Bundt Cake

Brownie Bundt Cake is a chocolate fudge cake mix and fudge brownie mix that comes together to make the most scrumptious chocolate cake you will ever eat.  The chocolate ganache icing sends the chocolate love over the top.    HOT COCOA BROWNIE CAKE I like to call this cake Hot Cocoa Brownie Cake.  The rich chocolate taste in this bundt cake reminds me so much of a sheet cake I grew up eating in the 60s.    Don't wait to make this cake.  The Hot Cocoa Brownie Cake brings back so many memories of my mother's chocolate cake growing up.  The Hot Cocoa Brownie Cake has a rich, and I mean rich, chocolate presence in the cake from the two mixes, chocolate fudge cake mix and chocolate fudge brownie mix.  The cake is dense while tender and moist yet smooth.  The recipe has only five ingredients, so do not add the ingredients on the back of the mix boxes.   I used Hershey Milk Chocolate Frosting  and microwaved it for 30 seconds to make an almost homemade ganache.   If you prefer, you can

Garden Green Beans and New Potatoes

Fresh Green Beans and New Potatoes are a simple side dish full of flavors from the garden: homegrown green beans  and the first crop of new potatoes.   GRANNY'S GREEN BEANS AND NEW POTATOES Growing up, we could not wait for the first crop of green beans and potatoes to come out of the garden. Fresh vegetables are the best if they are fresh out of the garden, and you cannot beat them.  I love Fresh Green Beans and New Potatoes cooked with ham or bacon. This is another side dish that Mother would make by cooking a pan of cornbread, slicing onions and tomatoes, and calling it a meal.

Easy Jello Peach Icebox Pie

Easy Jello Fresh Peach Pie, three ingredients make a fresh peach filling, and a homemade buttery pecan shortbread crust will create a no bake icebox pie you see in your beloved diners.  Be sure to use fresh peaches. If you love peaches as much as I do and can not bring yourself to turn the oven on for a fresh peach cobbler , lattice top peach pie , this foolproof no bake pie is the perfect summertime solution. The best part of this fresh peach icebox pie is you can make it in the morning and serve it by dinnertime, or you can make it a day ahead before serving it.

Pork Belly Baked Beans

Pork Belly Baked Beans, pork and beans enhanced with a glorious slab of pork belly chunks, rich molasses, chopped onions, bell pepper, and ever so slight sprinkle of red pepper flakes deliver these traditional baked beans to an umami adventure.  These Pork Belly Baked Beans are one of the most delicious ways to enjoy pork belly and baked beans, simply delicious. I made a spin on my traditional  Southern Baked Beans for the recipe for the bacon; I switched for a slab of pork belly that I cut up into 1/2-inch chunks.  The pork and beans need to be drained really well to start off with. And the pork belly needs to cook low and slow until done and golden brown, stirring and watching closely not to burn.  If you try to cook it faster, it will present chewy and dry results.

Baked Ham and Angel Biscuit Sliders

Baked Ham and Angel Biscuits Sliders, a country smoked ham sandwiched between a fluffy buttermilk biscuit.  These are perfect appetizer to serve at parties.     This time of the year makes me think of all the ways to serve Baked Country Ham and Angel Biscuit Sliders, Easter Brunch, Mother's Day Brunch, Graduation Parties, Bridesmaid Brunch,  and the list goes on and on.

Lemon Bars Recipe

Old Fashioned Lemon Bars are the quintessential southern dessert at teas, luncheons, and showers.  The only recipe you will ever need, a simple, straightforward method.   My Lemon Bars sings the praises of spring coming.  They are so easy to make and are bursting with so much lemon goodness. After you make my recipe, you will not want to go back to store bought or packaged ones again.   My recipe uses a buttery shortbread cookie crust and a rich tangy sweet lemon curd filling. The combination is amazing.
