Crockpot (Hen) Chicken & Dressing , all the bells and whistles of traditional Turkey and Dressing flavors cooked in a crockpot.  A Southern favorite all year around! During our cool spell here in Texas a couple of weeks ago, I had a hankering for some Chicken and Dressing after seeing a Facebook friend post that she was making some for her family.

Have you ever heard of yellow squash in a quick bread recipe?  I was first introduced to it last summer by my daughter.  I love to bake with zucchini in bread but never had made any with yellow summer squash.

Strawberry Vanilla Wafer Icebox Pie is a no-bake pie.  Icebox pies are especially popular in the South where days here are sultry hot and us Southern ladies enjoy serving refreshing and delicious desserts. Early in the 1900's there were iceboxes in most house, and the pies were made with a baked pastry crust and a whipped filling without any worry of the pie oozing all over the plate.

It's an easy and unique twist on the traditional peach cobbler .   As a tradition, every year around my daughter's birthday, we try to go to our favorite Peach Orchard! This year we actually got to go on her birthday, which was sweet. There are so many fresh vegetables and fruits, you cannot leave without something.   Who remembers the roadside produce stands that were popular in the '50s and '60s?  This is as close to one as you can get these days. We loaded up with fresh peaches, wild red plums, cantaloupes,  Fresh Lady Cream Peas , and their famous fresh peach soft serve ice cream.  Yum!

Three Bean Salad,  a throwback salad from the 50s.   It is a great salad for picnics, cookouts, and at any family gatherings, it will serve a large crowd.  Two weeks ago I shared a favorite retro recipe for Southern Stuffed Cabbage Rolls .  Today I am sharing another retro recipe and a summer favorite .  This salad can go anywhere.
